story of a house that has created wealth for a nation. In a world
of robber barons who takeover, people need to know what it takes
to create companies, to build companies, to run companies. And
I felt that inspiration could come to people — not only outside
Tatas but also within Tatas themselves — when they see and
recognise what the past is; what the tradition is. And what we are
called upon, with all our limitations, to do.
These Archives will not only give information, but I do hope that
they will inspire people and make them aware that there is a
tradition that they can hold on to; that they can fall back upon.
It doesn’t mean we don’t fall short of the glory of the tradition; we
all do at some point by some word or deed. But we know what
the tradition is and we can get back to it. And we are proud and
