The first exhibition in the Tata Central Archives Gallery was on "J.N. Tata". It focused on the life, industrial ventures and philanthropic work of Jamsetji Tata, the Founder of the House of Tata and the man who revolutionised Indian industry.
It was inaugurated by Ratan N. Tata, Chairman, Tata group on February 13, 2001.
The exhibition was divided into sections such as the Tata Family, Phases of Jamsetji's Life, the Three Textile Mills, Esplanade House, The Indian Institute of Science, The Tata Iron and Steel Co. Ltd., The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, The Tata Electric Cos. and the last days of Jamsetji Tata. Each section was made interesting and informative with restored photographs and relevant documents. Among the exhibits was the original agreement of the J.N. Tata Endowment Scholarship awarded to K.R. Narayanan, the former President of India.
The Tata Central Archives was thrown open to the general public on March 3, 2001.
