Tata Central Archives Memorabilia Collections

The Tata Central Archives Memorabilia Collections comprises paintings, artefacts, furniture, awards, medals and citations belonging to Jamsetji Tata, Sir Dorabji Tata, Sir Ratan Tata, J.R.D. Tata and various Tata personalities.

Following is a representation of the type of memorabilia at the Tata Central Archives:

The President of India, R. Venkataraman conferring the Bharat Ratna on J.R.D. Tata at Rashtrapati Bhawan in March 1992, for his great contribution in the building of a modern India. The Bharat Ratna consisted of a citation and a medal.

J.R.D. Tata receiving the 1979 Tony Jannus Award from Donald W. Nyrop, last year’s recipient and former Chairman of the North-West Airlines. He was the first Asian to receive this prestigious award which is given in recognition of outstanding contributions to the development of scheduled commercial flying.

J.R.D. Tata received the prestigious United Nations Population Award for 1992 from the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Boutrous Boutrous-Ghali, at the UN Headquarters in New York on September 17, 1992. The award consisted of a citation and a medal.

The Convocation Gown and Cap which J.R.D. Tata had worn when he was awarded the Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) by the Bombay University in 1981.
